Birthday Wishes

June 28, 2011 - 4:34pm

The Lemoine family, who stayed at the Ronald McDonald House while their newborn son underwent serious medical procedures, just celebrated the first birthday of their son, Ryan. In lieu of typical first birthday gifts like clothing and toys for Ryan, the Lemoines asked friends and family for donations of wish list items and gift cards for the Ronald McDonald House.

Ryan Lemoine was born prematurely during the summer of 2010. His heart rate dropped during labor, but after delivery Ryan seemed to be a healthy newborn baby. Within the next couple of days, however, Ryan was diagnosed with a heart defect that would need to be addressed immediately.  A case worker suggested the Lemoine’s stay at the Ronald McDonald House while their son was recovering from surgery at Maine Medical Center. Jennifer Lemoine says they are happy that they accepted the suggestion.

“There is not a moment that passes when I think of the struggles we’ve been through that I don’t also think about how fortunate we were to have the RMH available to us,” she explained. “The staff was helpful and understanding, eager to assist with all of our needs, and we even met another family whose baby had also undergone surgery to correct his congenital heart defect.”

“Ryan’s road to recovery was filled with many unexpected surprises but he’s a fighter,” Jennifer says. “We recently found out that Ryan will have to undergo a second heart surgery to repair some of the scar tissue from his original surgery.  For now, he is a very happy and otherwise healthy toddler.”
We are happy to have made a difference for the Lemoine family during their stay at the House. They have now made a difference for the families staying here now and in the future. Happy first birthday to baby Ryan!
